Q:

What impressed you the most about the CERACLAD factory tour and the R&D center?

A:

The factory tour was great from start to finish. I really appreciated that they showed us all the raw ingredients used from the beginning of the process and took us step by step through the production. We weren’t allowed to take photos, which was unfortunate because architects like to share photos when they return to their offices to discuss their experience with teammates and share what they learned. The entire operation was super clean, and the factory was very well-maintained. I appreciated the thorough walkthrough from beginning to end. The R&D center was also good to see, showcasing the science side of the operation and what people were working on.

Q:

What are your thoughts on the technology used in the factory? 

A:

I appreciated the thorough walkthrough. It was great to see everything under one roof. Ceraclad has full control of their process, which is impressive. There's a high level of control and quality assurance along the way. If there was an issue, the machines would stop, and it would be addressed immediately. For example, if molds were off, they would make a new mold. If there was a defect in the coatings, production would stop to fix it. The process felt highly efficient and adaptable. At the end, a gentleman was visually scanning all the panels for final review, which was remarkable. The quality of the end-product is highly observed and maintained.

Q:

What was the highlight of the architectural tour? You went to kyoto and continued the tour in tokyo. Did anything stand out to you?

A:

I've been to Kyoto before, so revisiting these places was great after so many years. I really appreciated the curated meals that Ceraclad organized in traditional houses. The first meal was memorable because the house had hand-carved wood floors, unique plaster walls and the woodwork of the screens was exquisite and delicate, The level of woodworking in Japan is exceptional. The highlight of the architectural tour was definitely the woodwork, craftsmanship, and joinery. I look forward to returning to Osaka with my family to visit the World Expo in 2025.

Did you notice any of these benefits during your visit, and which stood out the most?

A:

The live demonstration of Ceraclad’s self-cleaning properties using a UV light stood out the most. Before this demonstration, I didn't fully understand what was implied by the term "self-cleaning". The demonstration showed two panels, one with Cerclad’s coating and one without. After applying dirt, shining the light, and adding water, it was clear that the coated panel performed better. This live demonstration was more powerful than any diagram or pamphlets. It’s an extremely useful technology, especially in the United States. 

Q:

Which benefit is more suitable for your upcoming projects? Which do you see your clients wanting the most?

A:

Mikki: The self-cleaning coating process is the most compelling benefit for me. It reduces the need for maintenance. I would love to see research on a coating that can easily remove graffiti, which would be important for our urban projects.

Amanda: We often get questions about anti-graffiti coatings. While nothing is completely anti-graffiti, our coating helps make removal much easier due to the photocatalytic process. Natural elements, like sunlight and rain, help clean the buildings, making it more graffiti-resistant. What makes you want to use CERACLAD panels for your projects?

A:

The benefits, particularly the durability and performance, make Ceraclad panels appealing.

Q:

Do you have any projects coming up where you're considering using CERACLAD? What is the deciding factor?

A:

Yes, I am considering Ceraclad for an upcoming project. The key is to convince the owners of the low maintenance, durability, and longevity benefits of Ceraclad compared to competitor products. I’m advocating for this product in my office and singing the praises of the factory tour.
