Experiencing BUILDEX 2025

We visited BUILDEX 2025, where the latest building materials from around the world were showcased, to investigate market trends and new technologies. This report focuses on exterior wall materials and explores the future potential of our products.

By Yusuke Kawasaki, Ryoya Namiki, Shoko Nadata, KMEW Internship Program

BUILDEX Vancouver, Western Canada’s premier event for the design, construction, and real estate industries, is scheduled for February 26–27, 2025, at the Vancouver Convention Centre West. Attendees can explore over 350 exhibitors, participate in networking opportunities, and gain insights from more than 200 expert speakers. BUILDEX Vancouver 2025 is the ultimate destination to connect with industry leaders and discover the latest trends shaping the built environment.

The construction industry is constantly evolving, with material and design trends changing year by year. At this exhibition, we focused on three key areas:

  • Understanding market trends: Analyzing popular designs, color trends, and advancements in installation techniques.
  • Researching new technologies: Examining innovations that enhance durability and functionality, as well as the development of environmentally friendly materials

Trends we found in Exterior Wall Materials

Design & Color Trends

The demand for natural-looking textures in exterior wall materials continues to grow:

  • Increased demand for wood grain designs: Authentic wood patterns, particularly cedar and pine, are gaining popularity.
  • Growing interest in custom colors: Bright and vivid colors remain in demand, chosen based on architectural concepts and building purposes.
  • Preference for traditional tones: In Vancouver, chic and elegant color palettes are favored.

Installation & Functionality

Improving installation efficiency remains a major trend:

  • Seamless joint installation: Techniques that minimize visible seams for a cleaner finish are in demand.
  • Diverse joint shapes: Various installation methods are emerging to meet different design needs.

Durability & Sustainability

Enhancing material durability and promoting sustainability are critical considerations:

  • Improved weather and fire resistance: Long-term warranties are becoming a standard feature.
  • Environmental consciousness: Sustainable materials and recycling technologies continue to advance.

At this exhibition, we showcased two products:

CERACLAD MURAL PROGRAM

This technology utilizes high-performance printing to apply digital designs directly onto CERACLAD panels. Traditionally, artists painted murals on-site, but with the MURAL PROGRAM, pre-designed artwork can be seamlessly integrated into exterior walls. Additionally, since the panels are pre-printed in the factory and installed in sequence, the construction process remains as straightforward as with standard CERACLAD products.

T-Joint System

This system minimizes the use of caulking at board joints and corners, enhancing both aesthetics and installation efficiency. Traditional caulking often disrupts the overall design, varies in finish quality depending on craftsmanship, and requires on-site color matching. The T-Joint System resolves these issues, ensuring a clean and cohesive exterior design.

We gained valuable insights into trends in exterior wall materials. By adapting to market changes and incorporating these learnings into our product development, we aim to become a brand of choice for more customers.

Stay tuned for our future innovations!

Yusuke: I am proud to have participated in such a major event as BUILDEX. It was exciting to see many visitors take an interest in CERACLAD products. I was particularly impressed by the variety of wood grain designs exhibited by other companies. Moving forward, I want to develop impactful new products that inspire more customers to use CERACLAD.

Nami: This exhibition was my first overseas experience. I gained a wealth of knowledge through in-depth discussions with experts who provided insightful answers to our questions. I hope to apply these insights to the development of high-quality building materials that contribute to society. Thank you all!

Shoko: It was my first time attending an international exhibition, and I was excited to see a wide range of products. I was particularly fascinated by unique materials such as laminated metal panels, sustainable products incorporating rice husks, and natural stone tiles, which reflect Canada’s focus on eco-friendly materials. I also found inspiration in interior design elements like tiles and wood finishes, which could be applied to exterior walls in innovative ways. The construction industry is increasingly prioritizing sustainability, and I look forward to delivering even better products based on the ideas gained from this event.
